Srinagar: President Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Party Vice President Omar Abdullah who heads the elected Government as Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister on Monday visited “Mazar-e-Shohada” at Khawaja Bazar, Srinagar, to offer Fatiha and floral tributes to the martyrs of July 13.
According to a statement issued from party headquarters here Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah were among others accompanied by party General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Cabinet Ministers Sakina Itoo and Javed Dar, Advisor to Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq and several other functionaries of J&K National Conference.
The Statement issued by the party reads “Despite facing attempts by authorities to block their passage, including the placement of CRPF bunkers and police vehicles, the leaders proceeded with their visit”. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the event Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed strong concern over the obstructions”. “Today I came here without informing anyone, yet they tried to stop us. I want to ask under which law they acted. This is a democratic country; we are servants of the people, not of uniformed officers who misuse their authority,” he said.
Omar Abdullah alleged that his party workers were allegedly threatened, their flag was targeted, and attempts were made to detain them. “Despite all efforts to stop us, we came here, paid our respects, and offered Fatiha. We will continue to come here and honour our martyrs, no matter the obstacles”, Said Chief Minister Abdullah. He reiterated his commitment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that he remains answerable only to them, and not to those who seek to stifle democratic expression.
