Srinagar| July, 13 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah along with senior leaders of the ruling party drove straight to “Martyrs’ Graveyard” to pay tributes to people killed on July 13, 1931, despite alleged attempts by police to prevent him and other National Conference leaders from accessing the site.
The visit followed a day of confinement for Chief Minister Abdullah and other leaders, who were barred from commemorating the anniversary of July 13, 1931 killings. Abdullah expressed his dismay over the attempts of the administration to obstruct his visit and questioning the legality of such actions.
He criticized authorities for describing the situation in Jammu and Kashmir as a “tyranny of the un-elected,” where elected representatives were restricted from fulfilling their duties. Abdullah drew parallels between the July 13 massacre and historical events like the Jallianwala Bagh incident, emphasizing the sacrifices made by those who opposed British rule.
