West Bengal CM accepts invitation, asks Centre to ensure security for visitors in valley

Kolkata: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday met his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata to extend a formal invitation to her to visit the picturesque valley.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called on Banerjee during his visit to Kolkata. The two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest and explored opportunities for inter-state cooperation, as stated in a post by the Office of the Chief Minister, Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, sources said, CM Omar extended a formal invitation to Mamata Banerjee to visit Kashmir, which she later accepted.
Speaking to the media after meeting Abdullah, the West Bengal CM said she has accepted the invitation extended by him to visit Kashmir. “I will try to visit Kashmir once the Durga Puja is over,” she said.
Banerjee said Kashmir is a beautiful place and the people want to visit there. However, there should be adequate security for the people so that they can visit the picturesque place without any fear, she said.
“We are ready to help Kashmir anyway, but the Government of India, having control over law and order, must ensure the safety of every single person visiting Kashmir,” Mamata added.
Pertinently, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated the Travel & Tourism Fair, TTF Kolkata-2025, India’s oldest and most trusted B2B travel trade show, at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan, Kolkata.
Addressing a distinguished gathering of travel professionals, industry stakeholders, and dignitaries, CM Abdullah described TTF Kolkata as a vital platform to explore avenues for collaboration between Jammu & Kashmir and West Bengal and promote mutual growth in the tourism sector
