Awantipora : The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) recently hosted a Hackathon organized by the Centre for Career Counseling and Placements (3CP@IUST) in collaboration with Andino Labs, aimed specifically at B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering students.
This intensive 26-hour event involved four student teams working on real-world problem statements provided by industry partners, fostering innovation, teamwork, and practical problem-solving skills. Prof. A. H. Moon, Dean of Academic Affairs, emphasized the significance of such competitions in allowing students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges, thereby enhancing their employability. Jexa Gohil from Andino Labs noted the impressive problem-solving skills displayed by participants and highlighted the event’s role in preparing students for industry challenges and future job opportunities. Dr. Ruheela Hassan, Dean Outreach, pointed out that initiatives like 3CP not only nurture student potential but also strengthen university-industry connections essential for future readiness. Placement Officer Basharat Masoodi remarked on the increasing importance of Hackathons as pathways to internships and job opportunities, facilitating the application of theoretical knowledge to practical challenges while improving both technical and soft skills. Dr. Zahoor A. Ganie, Head of the Centre for Career Counseling and Placements, reiterated the department’s commitment to experiential learning and industry alignment, viewing the Hackathon as a significant step in IUST’s dedication to holistic student development through collaboration and meaningful engagement with industry.
