New Delhi, Srinagar: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has identified eight vacancies for the Indian Police Service (IPS) from the Jammu & Kashmir segment of the joint AGMUT cadre, covering the years 2021 to 2024.
According to a letter from the MHA, five vacancies have been re-determined for the Select List of 2021, with no vacancies for 2022, two for 2023, and one for 2024. This decision follows the provisions of the IPS Recruitment Rules and the IPS (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations. The Jammu and Kashmir police, now under the direct control of the MHA following the region’s transition to a Union Territory, has seen a carry-forward of five unfilled vacancies from previous select lists (2015-2020) into the current year. In total, 27 appointments were notified in the IPS cadre for the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir on September 29, 2023, following a selection committee meeting held on July 21, 2023. Additionally, three vacancies for 2023 and 2024 have arisen due to the retirement of an equal number of IPS officers. The MHA has instructed its Union Territory division and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to proceed with the necessary actions as outlined in the IPS Promotion Regulations. This restructuring aligns with the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2021, which merged the Jammu and Kashmir cadre of All India Services with the AGMUT cadre.
