New Delhi|May,24 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked states to work towards “future-ready” cities and develop at least one tourist destination at par with global standards. Chairing the Niti Aayog meeting, the Prime Minister urged the chief ministers to increase the speed of development in order to achieve the goal of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ or developed India by 2047.
In a big nationwide tourism push, PM Modi put forward the idea of “one state, one global destination”. “States should develop at least one tourist destination per state at par with global standards and by providing all facilities and infrastructure – One State: One Global Destination. It would also lead to the development of the neighbouring cities as tourist places,” he said. This was the first meeting of the Prime Minister with state chief ministers following Operation Sindoor and India’s hostilities with Pakistan. The tourism pitch shows that the government remains undeterred despite the attack on tourists in Kashmir’s Pahalgam. The terror attack, which left 26 dead, has triggered an exodus of tourists. He also underscored that “growth, innovation and sustainability” should be the mantra for the development of future-ready cities. “India is getting rapidly urbanised. We should work towards future-ready cities… We should have the aim of making each state viksit (developed), each city viksit, each nagar palika viksit and each village viksit. If we work on these lines, we will not have to wait till 2047 to become Viksit Bharat,” he said. He also emphasised that the route to being a developed nation includes the “inclusion of women in our workforce”. “We must make laws and policies so that they can be respectfully integrated into the workforce,” he said.
