2 drug peddlers booked under PIT NDPS Act in Ang, Kulgam

Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has booked two drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act in Anantnag and Kulgam after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authorities.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Police said in Anantnag, the accused Ishfaq Ahmad Mir S/o Showkat Ahmad Mir R/o Sirhama Srigufwara was found actively involved in drug peddling, posing a significant threat to public health and safety, adding therein that after a thorough investigation and collection of substantial evidence, necessary approvals were obtained from the competent authority for the detention of the said accused under the PIT NDPS Act. Stating that while following due legal procedures, the accused waslodged at Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, preventing him from continuing his illegal activities Police in its statement further said that in Kulgam also a drug peddler namely Ghulam Nabi Wagay S/o Ghulam Ahmad Wagay R/o Gundipora, Qazigund has been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority and lodged in District Jail Udhampur.
Police in its statement further said that the said drug peddler is a habitual offender, involved in Case FIR No. 02/2023 & 27/2023 of Police Station Kund, Stating therein further that despite having been bound down under preventive measures repeatedly, Ghulam Nabi Wagay persisted with his involvement in illegal drug trafficking, posing a grave threat to the society, especially the youth. Police in its statement furthermore said that the said accused is a key figure in the narcotics trade, procuring drugs from various sources and selling them at higher prices, primarily targeting the youth of Kund and other adjacent areas.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police reiterated its commitment to making the district drug-free and appealed people to support this mission by reporting any drug-related activities and also share information through helpline numbers while ensuring complete confidentiality of their identity.
