Agri deptt organizes two-day awareness prog on “Scientific Beekeeping” at Kulgam

Kulgam : The Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Department Kulgam on Monday organized a Seminar cum Awareness programme on “Scientific Bee Keeping”, under National Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) at Community hall here at DH Pora Kulgam.
This programme was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam Athar Aamir Khan.
The programme was attended by Sub Divisional Magistrate Bashir-ulHassan, Tehsildar DH Pora, Chief Agriculture Officer, District Agriculture Officer, Cordinator, Scientists from KVK Pombay and other officers besides farmers, beekeepers and unemployed youth.
Addressing the occasion, the DC stressed upon the concerned authorities to extend their range of operation and involve more farmers especially the unemployed youth under various welfare programmes sponsored by the department so that they can avail benefits for their sustainable livelihood.
He emphasized to disseminate awareness among the people regarding various new and scientific beekeeping cultivation methods so that productivity is increased.
He also urged the concerned to ensure handholding of farmers not only in increasing the production but to work on marketing aspect to fetch best prices of their products.
DC also spoke at length regarding the support available under HADP and National Mission for Honey and Beekeeping for the potential beekeepers in the district.
DC on the occasion appriciated the efforts of agriculture department for organizing such informative camps for the unemployed youth.
On the occasion, he also felicitated the beekeepers by certificates for their excellent work in the Apiculture cultivation.
Speaking on the occasion, DAO Reyaz Ahmad Malik asked the farmers to take maximum benefit under the programme by getting training and awareness of different Government schemes to establish their income generating units under the Apiculture sector.
During the Seminar, the Resource Persons provided awareness to the beekeepers regarding the potential of bee keeping in Kulgam district, besides they also highlighted different Government schemes for handholding of the aspiring beekeepers.
