5 drug peddlers arrested, Contraband substances & Cash also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Kupwara, Baramulla, Srinagar & Budgam and also recovered contraband substances & cash from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police team of Police Post Bazaar at a checkpoint established at Geerhatchi, Kupwara, intercepted a suspect identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Parry S/o Ghulam Hassan Parry R/o Doniwari Lolab and during search recovered 11 grams of Heroin-like substance and ₹5,170 from the possession of the said accused after which he was arrested.
Stating that in Baramulla also a Police party of Police Station Uri at a checkpoint established at Gingal Uri, arrested a drug peddler identified as Saleem Khan S/o Akhter Khan R/o Dawaran Uri, Police in its statement said that during search, 1.208 Kgs of Cannabis Powder like substances was recovered from the possession of the said accused.
Police in its statement further said that in Srinagar also, a Police team at a checkpoint established at Dalgate, arrested two drug peddlers identified as Aquib Ahmad Sofi S/o Late Gh Mohi Udin Sofi R/o Buchwara Dalgate and Ashiq Hussain Dar @Ashiq Kala S/o Mohd Yousuf Dar R/o Dubji Bund Maisuma Srinagar and during search, substantial quantity of narcotic substance and cash amount of ₹5,000/- have been recovered from their possession.
Stating that in yet another similar action in Budgam alsoa Police party of Police Station Chadoora, during naka checking at Madbal Chadoora, intercepted a vehicle (Alto) bearing registration No. JK01K-3500 driven by one Sajad Ahmad Wani S/o Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Wani R/o Nowhar Chadoora and during search recovered 1.70 Kgs of Charas Powder and 2 sticks of Charas wrapped in corn husk from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized, Police in its statement further said that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigation. In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
