G’bal: Despite ban, the illegal extraction of sand is going on unabatedly at Dagpora to Umerhair areas of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar and Ganderbal district.
Locals here alleged that the extraction is happening under the very nose of Geology Mining field staff. Local residents said that mafia is extracting sand from the state land at Dagpora & Selling it at exorbitant prices, which is totally illegal and nobody from the Geology Mining department is seen there to stop them. “We have apprised the Geology and Mining department about the issue several times but the department seemed least interested in curbing the illegal extraction,” they added. Despite a ban, locals claim the sand mafia is operating with impunity and extracting from state land, the department have fallen on deaf ears. They have appealed higher authorities to look into the matter.
