Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Srinagar and Awantipora besides seizing contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, Police said a police party of Police Station Nowhatta during a routine naka checking at Malkha Chowk, Nowhatta intercepted a suspect identified as Sajad Sheikh S/o Baktawar Sheikh R/o Sheikh Colony, Hawal and during search, recovered approximately 3.370 kilograms of charas powder-like substance and 20 grams of charas from his possession after which he was subsequently arrested.
Stating that in Awantipora also, a police party of Police Station Awantipora headed by SHO Police Station Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Hatiwara Awantipora intercepted three suspects identified as Danish Rasheed Bhat S/o Ab Rasheed Bhat, Danish Ashraf Dar S/o Mohd Ashraf and Umer Rasool Dar S/o Gh. Rasool Dar, all residents of Lethpora and during search recovered 65 grams of charas like substance was recovered from their possession.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and reiterated its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
