Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday criticized Opposition parties for tarnishing the country’s image, disrespecting the Constitution, and misleading people onto the wrong path.
Addressing a public meeting upon his arrival in Odisha on a three-day visit to attend the DG/IG Conference near Biju Patnaik International Airport, Modi accused Opposition parties of conspiring against the nation. He said that their frustration stems from being rejected by the people, which has led them to act out of anger. Ahead of the All India Conference of Directors General/Inspectors General of Police 2024, the PM accused the Opposition of spreading misinformation and misleading the public. He acknowledged ideological differences among political parties as natural and emphasized their right to express views and stage protests. However, Modi noted a disturbing shift in recent times, with Opposition parties becoming increasingly focused on damaging democracy and the Constitution.
According to PM, these actions are driven by a sense of entitlement to power. Having lost in elections, these parties are now intensifying efforts to misguide the public and derail the nation’s progress. He urged citizens and party workers to remain vigilant, expose the Opposition’s lies, and thwart their attempts to deceive the public. Modi asserted that the primary goal of these parties is to regain power through deceit and exploitation, enabling them to plunder the country again.
Beginning his speech in Odia, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for visiting the land of Lord Lingaraj and offering prayers to Lord Jagannath. He highlighted how political experts had previously doubted the BJP’s ability to become a significant force in Odisha or form a government independently. However, the election results surprised many, as the BJP successfully formed the government on its own strength. Modi credited this victory to the people of Odisha, who recognized and appreciated the central government’s performance over the past decade.
The PM noted that his visit to Odisha was for the DG/IGP Conference, hosted for the first time in the state and attended by senior police officials from across the country. He also mentioned that Navy Day celebrations would be held in Puri and that Odisha would be in the spotlight in January 2025 during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi described the day as historic, with the Prime Minister visiting Odisha for the third time after BJP came to power in the state and expressed gratitude to Modi for his dedication to Odisha and its people.
Majhi saud that within five months of assuming office, the government had been working tirelessly for Odisha’s development under the motto “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas.” He highlighted that one crore women had received financial assistance under the Subhadra Yojana to protect Odisha’s identity, self-respect, and promote women’s empowerment. Additionally, he mentioned the decision to purchase paddy at Rs 3,100 per quintal, fulfilling a major promise to farmers.
To boost the industrial sector, the government is emphasizing investment through the ‘Utkarsh Odisha’ initiative. Majhi announced that Rs1.8 lakh crore in total investments had been approved, creating significant employment opportunities.
He emphasized Odisha’s contribution to India’s development goal for 2047, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the state’s formation in 2036 and expressed optimism that “Prosperous Odisha, Developed Odisha” would emerge, making a substantial contribution to ‘Developed India.’
The CM concluded by stating that under Modi’s leadership, Odisha would become a development hub and with the blessings of Lord Jagannath and a “double-engine government,” the state would move towards prosperity and progress.
