Bhubaneswar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday called for the implementation of a zero-tolerance strategy and action plan to enforce a zero-tolerance policy.
While inaugurating the 59th DGsP/IGsP Conference 2024, Shah emphasised focusing on emerging security challenges along the eastern border, immigration and trends in urban policing.
The conference, held in a hybrid format, includes the physical presence of DGsP/IGsP from all states and Union Territories, along with heads of CAPFs and CPOs. Officers of various ranks from across the country are participating virtually.
The National Security Advisor, Ministers of State for Home, and the Union Home Secretary also participated in the deliberations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the proceedings on the second and third days of the conference.
On this occasion, the Union Home Minister awarded Police Medals for Meritorious Service to officers of the Intelligence Bureau and released the Ministry of Home Affairs’ publication, Ranking of Police Stations 2024. Shah also presented trophies to the three best-performing police stations.
Shah congratulated the police leadership for the smooth conduct of the 2024 General Elections and the successful rollout of the three new criminal laws. He highlighted that these new laws have shifted the criminal justice system from being punishment-oriented to justice-oriented, emphasising that their spirit is deeply rooted in Indian traditions.
He expressed satisfaction with the significant improvements in the security situations in Jammu and Kashmir, the North-East, and states affected by Left-Wing Extremism (LWE).
Shah underscored the role of the security establishment in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 and achieving the status of the third-largest economy by 2027.
Over the next two days, the country’s top police leadership will draft a roadmap to counter existing and emerging national security challenges, including LWE, coastal security, narcotics, cybercrime, and economic security.
The implementation progress of the new criminal laws and the adoption of best policing practices will also be reviewed.
