Jammu : In an insightful and productive visit, students of Five Year M.Sc Integrated Programme from the Department of Economics at Central University of Jammu on Tuesday visited the NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) Headquarters for the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh today. The visit aimed to foster innovative industry-academia linkages,
inspired by the visionary ideas of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain. Coordinated by Prof. A. K. Nanda, Head of the Department of Economics, the visit provided students with a valuable, real-world learning experience on financial inclusion and rural development.
NABARD’s leadership team, including CGM Bhallamudi Sridhar, GM Vikas Mittal, DGM Rattan Lal, DGM Urmil Lata, AGM Praveen, AM Abhishek, and A M Ankit, welcomed the students as well as faculty and led an in-depth session on NABARD’s Financial Inclusion Survey (NAFIS). The session explored NABARD’s pivotal role in promoting financial inclusion, its responsibilities in rural and agricultural finance, as well as its developmental and supervisory functions aimed at promoting sustainable growth in these sectors.
The students were captivated by a comprehensive presentation on sustainable rural livelihoods, delivered by CGM Bhallamudi Sridhar. His insights highlighted NABARD’s commitment to creating long-term, resilient rural economies and inspired students to consider future careers within this impactful field. The delegation was led by Dr. Shaveta Kohli, Associate Professor from the Department of Economics, who expressed her appreciation for NABARD’s initiative to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application. Dr. Kohli emphasized the importance of continued partnerships like this for the holistic development of students and scholars, noting how such hands-on exposure strengthens research efficiency and inspires innovation in rural economic studies. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Anooj Bhadu, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, who acknowledged NABARD’s invaluable support and collaboration. The visit underscored a shared vision for empowering students to become future leaders in economic and rural development sectors.
