Srinagar: National Conference vice-president and chief minister-designate, Omar Abdullah, said on Saturday that the oath-taking ceremony will likely be held on Wednesday.
Omar said that Jammu & Kashmir has been under President’s Rule for the last six years and it has to be lifted first.
“There has been President’s rule here for the last six years. Now, to lift President’s Rule, a Cabinet note needs to be made and it has to be sent to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, then back to the Home Ministry. In between, there are holidays. Today is Dussehra, tomorrow is Sunday and God willing, by Monday, the process will be completed. On Tuesday, we will start preparing, and God willing, on Wednesday an oath will be taken,” Omar told reporters in Srinagar after watching the Legends League Cricket (LLC) match on Saturday.
When asked why in times of technology, it was taking too long for the process to complete, Omar humorously referred to the 2018 “fax machine fiasco” during the government formation.
“Previously, everything could have been done through a fax. Once, we tried to form a government via fax, but the fax machine did not work and had other plans…,” he said.
On cricket, Omar said they would certainly want for IPL and other international matches to be played in Srinagar.
“We certainly want to, but for that we will need to improve our infrastructure. It was not easy bringing this match here. We need to improve our cricket stadium,” Omar said.
