Ganderbal: Dussehra, the grand festival symbolizing the triumph of good over evil, was celebrated with immense devotion and fervor at the historic Kheer Bhawani temple in the Tulmullah area of Ganderbal on Saturday. The event drew hundreds of devotees, primarily Hindus and Kashmiri Pandits, who gathered in large numbers to participate in the spiritually uplifting festivities.

The celebrations were marked by traditional rituals, including the burning of giant effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghnath, representing the ultimate defeat of evil forces. The ritual was accompanied by sacred chants, devotional hymns, and fervent prayers, creating an atmosphere of deep religious reverence. Devotees, with folded hands, invoked the blessings of Goddess Ragnya Devi, the presiding deity of the temple, for peace, prosperity, and harmony in their lives.
In addition to the effigy burning, the temple witnessed elaborate prayer ceremonies throughout the day, with special rituals being conducted in honor of the occasion. Devotees offered flowers, sweets, and other traditional offerings to the deity, seeking her divine grace. The sound of conch shells and temple bells reverberated through the air, adding to the spiritual energy of the day. The atmosphere of joy and celebration was further enhanced by the bursting of firecrackers and the distribution of sweets among the gathered devotees, symbolizing the shared happiness and communal harmony of the region. Local vendors set up stalls selling religious items, sweets, and festive decorations, adding to the vibrant ambiance. Children and adults alike enjoyed the festive mood, with many dressed in traditional attire, further highlighting the cultural richness of the occasion. This year’s Dussehra celebrations at Kheer Bhawani temple were not only a display of religious devotion but also a reminder of the region’s rich cultural heritage and unity. People from different communities came together, setting aside differences, and celebrated the festival with shared enthusiasm and reverence, making it a day of communal harmony and spiritual fulfillment.
