Srinagar: Following is the timeline of weeklong public activities and major actions and responses to the situations and scenarios in Jammu & Kashmir:-
1. LG Sinha Performs Amarnathji Chhari Mubarak Pujan on Shravan Shukla Panchami: On the auspicious occasion of Shravan Shukla Panchami, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha performed the Pujan of the revered Amarnathji Chhari Mubarak at Mahadev Gir Dashnami Akhada in Srinagar. The ceremony, attended by Mahant Deependra Giri, was an invocation for Lord Shiva’s blessings for peace, progress, and well-being in the region.
1. Northern Army Commander Assesses Operational Readiness in Ladakh”: Lieutenant General M.V. Suchindra Kumar, Northern Army Commander, conducted a detailed visit to forward areas in Ladakh. The visit included an assessment of the operational preparedness and morale of the troops, alongside briefings on the latest technological integrations within the Northern Command.
2. “Centre May Restore J&K Statehood Before October, Says Union Minister Athawale”: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, indicated that the Central Government might restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir before October. He also suggested that legislative assembly elections could be scheduled for the same period.
3. LG Sinha Reviews Progress of ‘Balidan Stambh’ Project in Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reviewed the development of the ‘Balidan Stambh’ monument at Pratap Park, Srinagar. He emphasized the need for accelerating the project’s progress and ensuring its timely completion to honor the sacrifices of martyrs.
4. Div Com Kashmir Invites Public to Independence Day Celebrations: Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Bhiduri, extended an open invitation to Jammu and Kashmir residents for this year’s Independence Day celebrations on August 15. The event will include public access to the newly constructed Balidan Stambh in Lal Chowk, providing an opportunity to pay respects to national martyrs.
5. Zojila Tunnel Project Reaches 52% Completion Milestone: The Zojila Tunnel project, crucial for ensuring all-weather connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh, has reached a significant milestone with 52.13% of the work completed. Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, provided an update on the project’s progress in the Lok Sabha.
6. CS Approves 47 Water Supply Schemes Under AMRUT 2.0″: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a meeting to approve 47 water supply schemes under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0. Valued at ₹312.89 crore, these schemes aim to improve water security and provide reliable water connections to households across major towns in Jammu and Kashmir.
7. “RR Swain Appointed as J&K’s Director General of Police Until September 2024”: The Ministry of Home Affairs has formally appointed RR Swain as the Director General of Police for Jammu and Kashmir, effective immediately and continuing until September 30, 2024. Swain has been serving in the additional capacity prior to this official appointment.
8. “LG Sinha Advocates ‘Whole of Government Approach’ in Addressing J&K Challenges”: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force undergoing the Higher Command Course at the Army War College. He advocated for a ‘Whole of Government Approach’ to address challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the role of effective, accountable administration in the region’s transformation.
9. “PM Modi Marks 5 Years Since Abrogation of Articles 370 and 35(A)”: On the fifth anniversary of the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35(A), Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the move as a pivotal moment in India’s history. He highlighted how the abrogation has ushered in a new era of security, dignity, and opportunity for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, benefiting women, youth, and marginalized communities.
