Srinagar: Below is the timeline of the weeklong public events held within and outside J&K this week:-

J&K Govt Terminates Employees Over Narco-Militant Links: The Jammu and Kashmir government terminated six employees on Saturday over alleged narco-militant links. The terminated individuals include five policemen and a teacher, who were reportedly involved in militant financing through drug sales.

Election Commission to Review Assembly Election Preparations in J&K: The Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and SS Sandhu, will visit Jammu and Kashmir from August 8-10 to assess preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in J&K.

Kashmir Police Chief Calls for Enhanced Security Measures: Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi-IPS, chaired a security review meeting emphasizing the need to enhance protection for vulnerable targets. He stressed the importance of robust security and counter-insurgency plans for peaceful upcoming events.

Bollywood Director Madhur Bhandarkar Advocates For Kashmir As Filmmaking Hub: Renowned Bollywood director Madhur Bhandarkar praised Kashmir as an ideal location for film shoots. He urged the Tourism Department to explore offbeat and unexplored areas to further boost the film industry in the region.

 Z-Morh Tunnel Set To Open Without Toll By Sept, 15: The much-anticipated 6.5 km Z-Morh Tunnel is scheduled to open for transportation by September 15 this year, with no toll tax for vehicles using the tunnel. Colonel M.S. Sharma of NHIDCL noted that the tunnel will remain open year-round, similar to other tourist destinations in Kashmir. Election Commission Issues Directives for Officer Transfers Ahead of Elections On Wednesday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued directives regarding the transfer and posting of officers for the upcoming legislative assembly elections in Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Jammu and Kashmir. The move aims to ensure a neutral and fair electoral process.

Srinagar Recognized As ‘World Craft City’ By World Crafts Council: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed a Certificate Award Ceremony recognizing Srinagar as a ‘World Craft City’ by the World Crafts Council (WCC). Srinagar is now the fourth city in India to receive this prestigious title.

Rising Terror Incidents In Jammu And Kashmir: MHA Reports Casualties: Around 28 people, including 14 security personnel and 14 civilians, were killed in 11 militant incidents and 24 encounters until July 21 this year. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) emphasized a “zero tolerance” policy against militancy in a written reply.

MP from Jammu and Kashmir Appointed BJP Whip in Lok Sabha: For the first time, a Member Parliament (MP) from Jammu and Kashmir has been appointed as ‘Whip’ of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Lok Sabha. Jugal Kishore Sharma was appointed to the position following thorough party discussions.

High-Level Meeting Focuses on Militancy Trends and Inter-Agency Cooperation: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, convened a high-level meeting to address recent trends in militancy related activities and the need for inter-agency cooperation. The meeting, which included officials from CAPF, Intelligence agencies, Police, Security wing, and Civil administration, aimed at enhancing security measures for the upcoming 15th August celebrations.
