Srinagar: Below is the timeline of weeklong key public events held within and outside Jammu & Kashmir:-
1. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the 3rd Convocation of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora. As a Chancellor of the University, congratulated and extended his felicitations to the students and appreciated the commendable achievements of IUST in setting a shining example of gender equality.
2. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the second edition of ‘J&K Sambhaav Utsav’, organized by Resident Commission Jammu Kashmir at New Delhi. He commended the unique initiative of the J&K’s Resident Commission office, Delhi and all the associated departments to connect people of the national capital and other parts of the country with UT’s ageless cultural and artistic heritage, creative tradition and transformation, taking place in diverse sectors.
3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War on the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh.
4. The Administrative Council, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has approved amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Industrial Land Allotment Policy 2021-30, aiming to make it more transparent and equitable. The Industries and Commerce Department has integrated views and comments from stakeholders to update the existing policy effectively.
5. Under ‘Operation Sadhbhavna,’ the Army has inaugurated the first fully digitized school in the cross-border shelling-prone Village Nakarkote, District Poonch, Jammu region. This initiative, the opening of a fully digital school, aims to provide high-quality education and ensure a bright future for children who have long been deprived of quality education.
6. Chief of Army Staff, Upendra Dwivedi, visited forward areas along the Line of Control in Kashmir valley on Thursday. The purpose of his visit was to assess the security situation and the preparedness of the forces engaged in counter-infiltration and counter-militant operations.
7. Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF) Kashmir Ashok Yadav on Wednesday reviewed the operational preparedness of the units near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district. IG Yadav applauded the troops for their dedication to seamless domination of LoC, BSF Kashmir posted on X.
8. Managing Director of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), Mussarat Islam, this week announced that the installation of smart meters for all remaining domestic consumers will be completed within the next 27 months under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
9. Opposition political parties meet scheduled on August 7 at Jammu stands postponed, sources said. In a statement CPI (M) M. Y Tarigami said that NC President Dr Farooq Abdullah has expressed his inability to attend the meeting scheduled on August 7 at Jammu and has suggested for its postponement. “As such, this meeting is postponed,” he said.
10. In a major road accident on Saturday on the Sinthan-Kokernag route, a vehicle skidded off the road, resulting in the deaths of eight passengers, officials said. LG Sinha LG Manoj Sinha expresses grief over tragic road accident.
