New Delhi: Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Friday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the most followed world leader on X (formerly Twitter) as he created a record for achieving 100 million followers on the microblogging site.
“Congratulations PM @NarendraModi on being the most followed world leader!” he tweeted.
On July 14, PM Modi took to X to announce the historic milestone and his total number of followers surpassed sportspersons, politicians and celebrities.
“A hundred million on @X! I’m happy to be on this vibrant medium and cherish the discussion, debate, insights, people’s blessings, constructive criticism, and more. Looking forward to an equally engaging time in the future as well,” the Prime Minister tweeted.
PM Modi’s follower count on X surpassed global leaders including US President Joe Biden (38.1 million followers), Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed (11.2 million followers), and Pope Francis (18.5 million followers).
PM Modi’s follower count also surpasses that of global celebrities like Taylor Swift (95.3 million), Lady Gaga (83.1 million), and Kim Kardashian (75.2 million).
PM Modi’s social media following stands out even when compared to some of the world’s most popular athletes and celebrities. For instance, he has more followers than Indian cricketer Virat Kohli (64.1 million), Brazilian footballer Neymar Jr (63.6 million), and American basketball player LeBron James (52.9 million).
In the past three years alone, PM Modi’s X handle has grown by approximately 30 million followers. Since joining X in 2009, he has consistently used it for constructive engagement.
The Prime Minister maintains an active and engaging persona, following numerous common citizens, interacting with them, replying to their messages and never blocking anyone.
Meanwhile, Musk had announced his India visit just before the Lok Sabha elections. However, he later postponed the trip due to “very heavy Tesla obligations”, referring to his American electric carmaker firm.
In June last year, Musk and PM Modi met and held talks in the US. Upon the meeting, Musk called himself a “fan of Modi” and stated that Tesla would be investing in India.
