Srinagar: Amid the rise in attacks in Jammu region, National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Wednesday hit out at the government saying while they have been claiming that militancy was on its last legs the ground situation was telling a different story.
He said those responsible for managing the security situation should take the responsibility and bring the situation under control.
“The responsibility has to be set. Who is responsible for managing the security situation? They (government) have to handle their responsibility… We hope that the government keeping in view the situation will take some appropriate steps to control the situation in Jammu division”, Omar told media persons in Srinagar on Wednesday. ,
The former chief minister said that for the past one year a series of attacks has started in the Jammu region.
“Either it is Pir Panjal or Chenab valley or Jammu, Samba, Kathua, attacks are taking place. There is hardly any area in Jammu which is free from militancy,” he said.
He said during the past one year 55 braveheart soldiers and security force personnel have been killed in these attacks.
“Seeing such a situation, we are being forced to ask what the government is doing. The government has claimed too much. Whenever there is any militant attack, the authorities claim that the militancy is on its last legs…claiming that militancy has come to its end. But we couldn’t see it and how they see it is not understood”, he questioned.
“Nobody from the government so far has said what measures are being taken to stop these attacks”, the NC leader said.
Omar said the Centre should restore statehood before the assembly elections as the union territory has failed on all fronts, including combating violence UNI
