3 drug peddlers arrested in Shopian & G’bal; Contraband substance also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Shopian and Ganderbal and also recovered contraband substance and cash from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Shopian, a police party of Police Post Wachi at a checkpoint established at Doublepora, intercepted a vehicle (Tata ACE Gold) bearing registration No. JK13H-0342 and during search recovered heroin like contraband substance weighing about five grams and cash amount of Rs.30000 from the possession of two accused. Stating that the said accused weew identified as Umar Noor Mohd S/o Noor Mohd Bhat & Sameer Ahmad Bhat S/o Ali Mohd Bhat, both residents of Wuyan Pampore and subsequently arrested and shifted to Police Station Zainapora where they remain in custody , Police in its statement further said that the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized, adding therein that a case was recorded under FIR No. 55/2024 under sections of law in Police Station Zainapora besides initiated further investigation.
Police in its statement furthermore said that in yet another similar action in Ganderbal, a police party led by Incharge Police Post Nagbal at a checkpoint established at Warpahoo Shuhama link road intercepted a vehicle bearing registration No. JK01AQ-3910 driven by one Abdul Qayoom Wani S/o Ali Mohammad Wani R/o Yangoora Ganderbal , adding therein that during search, contraband charas powder like substance weighing 3.476 Kgs was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody besides which the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Stating that a case under FIR No. 157/2024, under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Ganderbal besides initiated further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood and also warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
