9 drug peddlers arrested in Ang & B’la, Contraband & Psychotropic substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has arrested nine drug peddlers in Anantnag and Baramulla and also recovered contraband and psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Anantnag seven drug peddlers were arrested in separate actions. Stating that a police team of Police Post Sangam apprehended two suspects namely Feroz Ahmad Rather S/o Gh Rasool Rather and Aijaz Ahmad Mantoo S/o Ghulam Mohammad Mantoo both residents of Waghama Bijbehara and also recovered about 9 Kgs of Poppy Straw from their possession, Police in its statement further said that a police party from Police Station Kokernag also recovered about 16.450 Kgs of Cannabis powder from the possession of Suhail Ahmad Dar S/o Mohd Ashraf Dar R/o Nagam Kokernag and Reyaz Ahmad Mir S/o Ab Razaq Mir R/o Watnard Kokernag.
Police in its statement furthermore said that a police party of Police Station Uttrasoo apprehended a suspect identified as Shakeel Ahmad Wani S/o Khazir Wani R/o Shiekhpora Uttresoo and also recovered about 21 grams of Charas, 350 grams of Poppy Straw and cash amout of Rs 10,000/- from his possession, adding therein that a police party of Police Station Aishmuqam apprehended one Gh Nabi Bhat S/o Jabbar Bhat R/o Yenner Pahalgam along with about four Kgs of Poppy Straw and 1.25 Kgs of Bung Boosa.
Stating that a Police party of Police Station Bijbehara also apprehended one Indraz Ahmad Thoker S/o Ali Mohammed Thoker R/o Waghama Bijbehara and also recovered 5 Kgs of Cannabis powder from his possession, Police in its statement furthermore said that in a similar action in Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Boniyar headed by SHO Police Station Boniyar at a checkpoint established at Thathamulla Boniyar apprehended one Mohd Ashraf Mir S/o Abdul Satar R/o Bujhthalan Boniyar and recovered from him 30 grams of Charas like substance.
Police in its statement also said that a police party of Police Station Kreeri headed by SHO Police Station Kreeri at a checkpoint established at Authoora intercepted a vehicle Scorpio bearing registration number DL4CNB-2774 and during search recovered 56 Tablets of Tapentadol Hydrochloride and 144 tablets of SpasmoProxyvon Plus like substance from the possession of the said accused identified as Mohd Asif Malla S/o Nazir Ahmad R/o Kreeri and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized in the instant case.
Stating that all the accused have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody , Police in it’s statement said that the cases were registered under relevant sections of law at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations.
In the concluding para of itsabove quoted statement police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and reiterated its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
