Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Anantnag, Baramulla and Shopian district and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Anantnag, a police party from Police Station Srigufwara during patrolling intercepted two suspects while carrying a nylon bag near PHC Kalan and during search, 5.5Kgs of Charas powder was recovered from their possession following which the accused were identified as Himayoo Bashir and Adil Bashir, both sons of Bashir Ahmad Ganie R/o K-Kalan, subsequently arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Stating that in Baramulla also, a police party led by SHO Police Station Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Drangbal Crossing Baramulla intercepted one Mohd Hussain Lone S/o Abdul Ahad R/o Jalsheeri Baramulla who tried to flee away but was apprehended tactfully and later, during search, 140 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession.
Police in its above statement also said that similarly, a police party headed by IC Police Post Mirgund during naka checking at Diver Pattan intercepted one Barkat Hussain Dar @Barket Jhatki S/o Gh Hussain R/o Chainbal Singhpora Pattan and during search, 90 grams of Charas like substance from his possession following which he was subsequently arrested and shifted to respective police stations.
Stating that in a similar action at Shopian, a police party from Police Station Imamsahib during Naka checking at Tulran Imamsahib intercepted one Fayaz Ahmad Malla S/o Sunaualla Malla R/o Wazir Chak Sangren and during search recovered about 1.3Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance and 30 grams of Cannabis Powder from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, Police in it’s statement further said that the cases under relevant sections of law were registered in respective police stations besides which investigation was also taken up.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and also reiterared that it will act tough against the criminals as per law.
