Srinagar: A 21-second video showing five young boys from Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district hanging from the open doors and bonnet of a Maruti car has prompted police intervention on Friday.
Police have seized the car, and the registration certificate (RC) cancellation of said vehicle has also been taken up with concerned authorities.
The action followed a video of five young boys hanging from the open doors and bonnet of a Maruti car in Sonmarg that went viral on social media.
The police said it was a life-threatening stunt.
“Taking cognizance of this life-threatening stunt that not only endangers the lives of commuters, pedestrians, or other drivers but also incites teenagers for life-consuming stunts, Dy SP Traffic Ganderbal-Bandipora Dr Mudasser Tramboo, under the supervision of SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir RP Singh, seized the said vehicle vide L-Tem No.958452 under relevant sections of the MV Act,” a police statement said.
“Moreover, the RC cancellation of said vehicle has also been taken up with concerned authorities.”
The police have requested that drivers follow traffic rules, abstain from stunt and rash driving, and actively participate in awareness programs being conducted by traffic police during the current National Road Safety Month 2024.
The police reiterated that strict legal action against defaulters driving dangerously in violation of prescribed MV Act rules shall continue in order to save the precious lives of drivers and commuters and ensure the safety of the public at large.
