Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested six gamblers in Baramulla and also seized stake money from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, Police said that while acting on specific inputs about gambling activities in a hotel at Gulmarg, a police party of Police Station Gulmarg raided the specific site and arrested six gamblers identified as Ab Majeed S/o Mohd Ramzan, Ishtiyaq Mohd S/o Ab Ahad, Mohd Yousuf S/o Ab Khaliq, Ab Rashid S/o Mohd Abdullah, Nissar Ahmad S/o Abdul Gani & Barkat Ali S/o Mohd Akbar, all residents of Sopore on spot, adding therein that stake money of Rs. 76,730/- and playing cards have been also seized from the gamblers and the accused have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered a case under relevant sections of law at Police Station Gulmarg and also initiated further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement warned that people found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
