Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Anantnag and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Srigufwara at a checkpoint established at Hospital crossing Srigufwara intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JK03H-8664 ridden by one person identified as Ubaid Amin Bhat S/o Mohd Amin R/o Kanelwan Bijbehara and during his search, 11 codeine phosphate bottles were recovered from his possession.
Police in its statement further said that in a similar action a police party of Police Station Mattan at a checkpoint established at Detho-Brah road, intercepted a Bike bearing registration number JK03G-3225 ridden by one person namely Aqib Bakshi S/o Showkat Bakshi R/o Sherkhan Mohalla Kehribal and during search, 2 Kgs of Poppy straw was recovered from his possession.
Stating that during course of investigation, on the disclosure of the said accused 1.9Kgs of Poppy straw was recovered from the possession of Mohd Ayoub Bhat S/o Gh Hassan Bhat R/o Deetho and 110 grams of charas, 1Kgs of Cannabis powder and cash Rs 10620 from the possession of Fayaz Ahmad Lone S/o Mohd Abdullah Lone R/o Chohar Shangus, Police in it’s statement further said all the accused were arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Police in it’s statement furthermore said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation is in progress.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
