Prof. Naseer Iqbal illuminates NIT Srinagar students with astrophysical insights

Srinagar: Renowned Astrophysicist Prof. Naseer Iqbal on Thursday held a special session with a fresh batch of B Tech Ist Semester students (Batch-2023) at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office NIT Sringar, the event was organized by the Department of Physics in collaboration with student Gymkhana. The event was presided over by Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Sudhakar Yedla who was the Chief Patron of the scientific event.
Prof. (Dr.) MA Shah served as the Advisor cum patron for the program. Prof. Prince Ganaie, Dr. Harkirat Singh, Dr. Zubair Ansari, and Dr. Vijay Kumar served as chairpersons of the mega event. Khurshid Ahmad was the student coordinator, ensuring the seamless execution of the event.
In his presidential address, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Sudhakar Yedla made a commitment to the students, assuring them of the establishment of an outstanding astronomical observatory at NIT Srinagar.
He said that the procurement process for a state-of-the-art telescope is already in motion, with experts actively involved in determining the most suitable location for this celestial marvel.
Prof. Yedla appreciated Prof. Shah for organizing such events on campus and stated that it was a long pending wish which was fulfilled by Prof. Shah.
Prof. Iqbal, a distinguished astronomer highlighted groundbreaking observations from cutting-edge telescopes and space probes.
The lecture covered a wide range of topics, from the birth and evolution of stars to the enigmatic nature of black holes. His presentation was not only highly informative but also managed to spark a keen interest among the audience, garnering a positive and enthusiastic response from all in attendance.
Prof. Iqbal encouraged students to explore careers in astronomy and astrophysics, highlighting the potential for groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of the cosmos. The lecture concluded with a lively Q&A session, where students and faculty engaged in stimulating discussions with Prof. Iqbal, further fueling the enthusiasm for the wonders of astronomy.

Following the lecture by Prof. Naseer Iqbal, the night sky became a canvas for hands-on exploration at the sports ground of NIT Srinagar. Students, fueled by newfound curiosity, actively participated in the stargazing event, turning the academic evening into a cosmic adventure. Equipped with telescopes and guided by astronomy enthusiasts among the faculty, students had the unique opportunity to observe celestial wonders firsthand. The event not only deepened the students’ appreciation for the subject but also fostered a sense of community and shared wonder.
