Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in twin districts of South Kashmir’s Anantnag and Kulgam district and also recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Bijbehara at a checkpoint established at Hassanpora Crossing, intercepted a vehicle (Alto) bearing registration no: JK02AM-9204 driven by Sajad Ahmad Bhat S/o Ab Khaliq Bhat R/o Mooman Danjipora and during search recovered 20 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from his possession, adding therein that the said accused was arrested besides which the vehicle used in the commission of crime too was seized.
Police in it’s statement also said that in a similar action in Kulgam Police on receiving specific inputs about the presence of contraband substance in the house of Mubashir Ahmad Bhat S/o Bashir Ahmad Bhat R/o Nillow along with a special team led by SHO Police Station Kulgam under the supervision of SP Hqrs Kulgam Ghulam Muhammad Bhat along with concerned Magistrate raided the spot and recovered 12 Kgs of Poppy Straw, a grinder and a digital weighing machine from the said residential house, adding therein that the owner of the house was arrested and shifted to police station.
Stating that police has accordingly registered cases under relevant sections of law at respective locations and initiated further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and reiterated that it will act tough against the criminals as per law.
