Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam and Baramulla police districts and also recovered huge quantity of contraband substances including 161 kilograms of grinded cannabis from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, Police said that in Kulgam while acting upon specific inputs about the presence of contraband substance generated by Kulgam police, a special team led by SHO Police Station Qaimoh under the close supervision of SSP Kulgam was constituted and the said team raided the suspected place (residential house) of Mashooq Ahmad Sheikh S/o Ghulam Qadir Sheikh R/o Khudwani, Qaimoh in presence of executive magistrate Qaimoh.
Stating that during search 161 Kgs of grinded Cannabis like contraband substance and cash amounting to Rs one lakh (believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime) was recovered, Police in it’s statement further said that the accused person was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody besides while a case FIR No 66/2023 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Qaimoh.
Police in its statement furthermore said that in a similar action, police party headed by InCharge Police Post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established at Manigam on Jammu-Srinagar highway intercepted a suspected person Gull Mohd Dar S/o Ghulam Ahmad Dar R/o Churat carrying a nylon bag, who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and during checking 4.3 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance was recovered from his possession following which a case under FIR No. 221/2023 relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation has been taken up.
Stating that in a similar action in Baramulla, a police party of Police Post Delina headed by IC PP Delina under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Chennad Baramulla intercepted a person identified as Showkat Ahmad Guroo S/o Gh Ahmad R/o Naidkhai Hajin and during during search recovered from him 70 grams of contraband substance Charas , Police in it’s statement furthermore said that a case under under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Baramulla and an investigation was also initiated.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society.
