Proclamation proceedings initiated against active militants in Shopian

Srinagar : Shopian Police in coordination with Revenue department on Saturday initiated proclamation proceedings under Section 82 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) against Bilal Ahmad Bhat S/o Gh Rasool Bhat R/o Cheki Cholen and Abid Ramzan Sheikh S/o Mohd Ramzan Sheikh R/o Chotipora Shopian, allegedly involved in many acts of militancy for offences in Case FIR No’s 24/2018 PS Zainapora, 94/2017, 266/2021, 05/2022, 40/2022, 214/2022, 215/2022 PS Shopian, 28/2018 PS Heerpora, 52/2018 PS Shopian, 59/2019 PS Heerpora, 84/2021 PS of Shopian, 10/2022, 28/2022, 36/2022, 116/2022 of PS Heerpora and 65/2023 PS Shopian.
The SSP Shopian Tanushree while sharing the details with media persons said “Shopian Police is committed to uphold the law and to ensure the safety and security of general public”, adding that “We are working closely with other agencies to follow due process and bring such elements to justice”.
Stating that these proceedings have been initiated against the said active militants evading their arrest as open non bailable warrant dated 06/09/2023 could not get executed against them, Police in it’s statement further said that accordingly, proclamation notice under section 82 of CrPC issued by the designated NIA Court has been pasted/circulated at their residences and other prominent places in their respective native villages along with revenue officials with the directions that said wanted militants shall surrender before investigation officer or court of law failing which further proceedings will be initiated accordingly against them. “ The Police Party Shopian was headed by Dy SP Hqrs Shopian assisted by SHO Police Station Shopian, SHO Police Station Heerpora and DO Police Post Hermain” reads the above referred police statement, adding that “exercise was carried out in presence of Executive Magistrate, Shopian, Hermain and Sarpanch, Lumerdar, Chokidar of respective villages
Stating that Police also used drum beating to inform people about the ongoing efforts to apprehend the said active militants wanted in connection with investigation of above-mentioned militancy related cases, Police in it’s statement further said Shopian Police is actively engaging community to free the Shopian district from the clutches of militancy, adding therein that recent initiatives also include the introduction of community policing programs and heightened security measures.
Police in it’s above quoted statement also said that the proclamation proceedings and property attachments are part of a comprehensive effort to address militancu and maintain the rule of law and appealed people to remain vigilant and report information that may assist in the apprehension of these active militants.
