CUK’s DRS holds lecture on ‘Authority of Hadīth: An Academic Perspective’

Ganderbal: The Department of Religious Studies (DRS), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organized an extension lecture by Mawlana Abdul Rashid Nadwi, an eminent scholar of Ḥadīth and Shaykh al-Ḥadīth of Nadwat al-Ulama Lucknow, on the theme “The Authority of Ḥadīth: An Academic Perspective” here Friday.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office CUK here, in his lecture, Mawlana Abdul Rashid Nadwi, introduced the science of hadith and its technicalities. He emphasized the importance of Ḥadīth in the Islamic jurisprudence and in the explanation of the Holy Qur’ān. He said the life of the Prophet Muhammad (SAAS) is the role model for the Muslim Ummah at the individual and the collective levels. He quoted different Ahadīth and emphasised the importance of the Sunnah of the Rasūlallāh (SAAS) and his Companions. Mawlana Abdul Rashid Nadwi threw light on the issues pertaining to the authority of Hadīth and highlighted the methodological issues related to the compilation of Hadīth.
Earlier, the programme began with the recitation of Holy Qur’ān and Na‘at by Mr. Umar Rasid Bhat and Mr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad Wagay respectively, research scholars of the department.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmad Zargar, in his welcome address introduced the speaker and the theme to the audience and emphasized the importance of ‘ilm al-Hadīth and Sunnah in the holistic understanding of Islam especially the interpretation of the Holy Qur’ān.
The lecture was followed by a question-answer session during which the scholars and the students asked intuitive questions to the speaker.
Department Coordinator, Dr. Moyeed-ul-Zafar, who presided over the function, thanked the speaker for his thought-provoking lecture and said that this lecture was highly valuable for both students and scholars.
Faculty members from the DRS and Urdu, research scholars, and students were present. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Showkat Ahmad Shah, Asst Prof. and Mr. Muhammad Ahmad Raza, Asst Prof. proposed the vote of thanks.
