Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Kulgam and Baramulla police districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Kulgam, a police party headed by SHO Police station Qazigund during patrolling at Dalwach, Qazigund intercepted two suspicious persons identified as Balwinder Singh S/o Dailaish Kumar R/o Shairiwala Ludhiana, Punjab and Harvinder Singh S/o Joginder Singh R/o Walipor Khurad Ludhiana, Punjab while carrying luggage bags who after noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but were tactfully apprehended by alert police party and during checking 19Kgs of poppy straw like contraband substance were recovered from their Luggage bags.
Stating the accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, Police in its statement further said that in a similar action in Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Boniyar headed by SHO Police Station Boniyar under the supervision of SDPO Uri at a checkpoint established at Boniyar Baramulla intercepted two suspects identified as Sajad Hussain Qureshi (Policeman) S/o Nazir Ahmad Qureshi R/o Bandi Uri & Nadeem Ahmad Awan S/o Mohd Hussain R/o Gingal Uri and recovered from them 48 grams of contraband substance Heroin following which the accused were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Police in it’s statement further said that police has accordingly registered cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and took up the investigation , Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112 and urged them to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society.
