Dengue cases on rise in Jammu, admin instructs setting up of addl beds in district hospitals

Jammu: In view of dengue cases reported from across the Jammu division, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has started taking reviews and has ordered setting up of additional ten beds in each district hospital.
Sources in the health department said that Dengue cases have started being reported from across the region and on an average, 3 to 4 cases are being reported in the hospitals.
“The cases likewise start reported in the monsoon season and so far, 25 people have been tested positive for the dengue,” said an official.
He said that of total 25 cases, 16 are reported from Jammu district and similarly, cases are also reported in Samba, Kathua, Poonch and Udhampur districts.
“Instructions have been passed to the district hospitals to set up ten beds each for patients in all the ten district hospitals and medical colleges of the division,” they said.
Sources added that the city based government hospitals including GMC, SMGS, Gandhinagar Hospital, Sarwal Hospital and Rajiv Gandhi Hospital Gangyal have arranged the Dengue NS1 antigen ELISA and Ig test.
Moreover, official sources said that 50 dedicated dengue beds have been set up in GMC Jammu besides in the NICU unit at SMGS hospital, children will be admitted in emergency cases.
Apart from GMC, platelet facilities will be available in Component Lab in SMGS and Gandhinagar Hospital, they said.
“In order to reduce the load of dengue patients in GMC Jammu, district hospital administrations of GMC Kathua, GMC Rajori, GMC Doda, GMC Udhampur have been asked not to refer general cases to Jammu. Arrangements have been made for platelets from component labs in various GMCs and there will be a provision to transport platelets to respective district hospitals as per requirement,” they added.
A senior doctor said that many parts of Jammu city have shown the presence of dengue mosquito larvae and the residents are being aware of this.
