Udhampur: Charandeep Singh, Director, Rural Sanitation, visited District Udhampur to witness the impressive strides made in transforming villages into Open Defecation Free (ODF) plus Model villages.
Director Rural Sanitation was accompanied by Ranjeet Singh (ACP Udhampur) and Dr. Manmeet Kumar (DPO Udhampur). The visit aimed to acknowledge and appreciate the relentless efforts being undertaken by the district authorities to mobilize the communities in collaborating with the officials for construction of assets which will ultimately result in transformation of our villages to ODF+ Model.
Director Rural Sanitation, Charandeep Singh, was accorded a warm welcome as he arrived at Block Tikri to witness the strides made in waste management and sanitation. The visit commenced with a visit to the Kali Mata Mandir lodgement centre, where Singh was briefed about the waste collection process and the initiatives taken to ensure effective waste management in the area.
During the visit to Kali Mata Mandir lodgement centre, he was apprised of the efforts put in place to handle waste of the centre efficiently. Discussions were held on the importance of segregating and treating waste responsibly, in line with the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) guidelines.
Moving forward, Charandeep Singh also witnessed the Door-to-Door waste collection from households in Panchayat Tikri. He interacted with the households’ residents and commended their active participation in waste segregation at the source, a crucial step towards achieving cleaner and greener villages.
The inspection further extended to the inspection of Community Sanitary Complexes (CSCs) constructed under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) along the highway for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. These CSCs play a pivotal role in providing clean and hygienic facilities for the Yatris (pilgrims) during their journey. Singh expressed satisfaction with the construction and maintenance of these facilities, emphasizing the importance of sanitation in ensuring a comfortable Yatra experience.
Charandeep Singh also visited Panchayat Battal of Block Udhampur where he inspected Segregation shed which is under construction and directed BDO Udhampur to complete the same before 5th Aug 2023. He also inspected the community compost pit constructed in the panchayat and lauded the efforts of the officers. Director Rural Sanitation had also interacted with the PRIs of Panchayat Battal and motivated them to actively participate in SBM activities. Earlier Sarpanch Panchayat Battal Sunita Rathore apprised the Director about Door to Door activities being carried out in the Panchayat.
Continuing his proactive approach towards monitoring sanitation initiatives, the Director of Rural Sanitation, visited the Segregation Shed at Panchayat Mand East and Segregation Shed at Panchayat Narsoo. The visit aimed to assess the progress made in waste segregation and commend the efforts of the community and authorities involved in this vital task.
Upon arriving at the Segregation Shed, Singh was briefed about the methods and techniques employed to segregate waste efficiently. The importance of proper waste segregation to optimize recycling and minimize landfill waste was highlighted during the discussion.
Impressed by the dedication and meticulousness demonstrated by the workers and volunteers at the Segregation Shed, Charandeep Singh commended their commitment to promoting a cleaner and sustainable environment. He emphasized the significance of waste segregation in reducing environmental pollution and its role in creating a circular economy.
The visit not only served as an opportunity to acknowledge the progress achieved in waste segregation but also encouraged the stakeholders to strive for continuous improvement in waste management practices. The Director of Rural Sanitation reiterated the government’s support in further strengthening waste management infrastructure and ensuring the success of Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) across the region
Singh concluded his visit by visiting Block Chenani where he interacted not only with PRIs and general public but also with the Swacchgrahis at Sudhmahadev Segregation shed.
These visits and interactions by Director Rural Sanitation, Charandeep Singh underscore the government’s unwavering commitment to achieving nationwide sanitation goals and fostering a culture of cleanliness and hygiene among the citizens. The exemplary efforts displayed in Block Tikri, Udhampur, Narsoo, Chenani and Mantalai inspire other regions to follow suit, as India continues its journey towards a Swachh and Swasth Bharat (Clean and Healthy India).
