Srinagar: Amarnath Yatra resumed from Pahalgam after remaining temporarily suspended for two days due to inclement weather but halted from Baltal, officials said.
However, the yatra resumed from the shortest route Baltal in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district by Chopper service only as the trek conditions remained slippery at many places due to rain during the past two days.
“Yes yatra resumed from Nunwan base came in Pahalgam in south Kashmir at 1240 hours as the weather improved with the bright sun appearing”, an official said and added, “ as many as 5851 yatris including men, women, Sadhu and Sadvis proceed from Nunwan base camp towards Amarnath cave shrine for darshan”.
He said the yatra remained temporarily suspended by trek for the third consecutive day on Sunday from the Baltal route due to inclement weather and slippery trek conditions.
He said 634 pilgrims including 234 women were airlifted from Baltal by helicopter in 117 sorties to the cave shrine of Amarnath till 1600 hours on Sunday. He said 2590 performed pooja and paid obeisance at the Amarnath cave.
He added that the weather has improved and yatra on foot is likely to resume Monday morning.
So far more than 90000 devotees have paid obeisance at the cave shrine since the commencement of the yatra on July 1. UNI
