Jammu: Two boys from the neighbouring state of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday feared drowned in Ranjit Sagar at Purthu in Basholi tehsil of Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Two boys from Dalhousie, HP, feared to be drowned in the Ranjit Sagar at Purthu,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Kathua, Shivdeep Singh Jamwal confirmed.
He stated that the SDRF team along with police have launched the rescue operation to trace the
boys missing in the water body.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh tweeted, “Disturbed to learn about the unfortunate drowning of two boys Gagan Verma and Sahil Tandon at Purthu, Basohli in district Kathua.”
“As informed by SSP #Kathua Shivdeep Singh, local Police, SDRF and local boating association divers are conducting rescue operations. Hoping for the best and praying for the safety of the boys,” he tweeted.
One of the prominent tourist destinations, Purthu is an artificial beach on the right bank of River Ravi popularly known as Ranjit Sagar Dam located in Basohli town in Kathua district. The site connects J&K, HP and Punjab.
