DDC Kupwara reviews implementation of SBM-G in the Distt

Officers asked to make it top most priority to ensure cleanliness in rural areas

Kupwara: The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray on Monday chaired a meeting of officers to review the implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G) at the Meeting hall of the DC office complex, here.
During the meeting, the DC took a detailed review of the status/ implementation of SBM-G and waste management plan in rural areas of the district.
ACD Kupwara apprised the chair that having achieved the milestone of ODF Kupwara, in time bound manner in SBM Phase –I , sustainable efforts are on to achieve targets of SBM Phase –II (ODF PLUS).
It was informed through a detailed PowerPoint presentation that, in ODF plus status of villages of Kupwara district, out of total 490 villages, 438 are Aspiring category, 8 are in Rising category and a total of 56000 soakage pits have been constructed till date in the district for grey water management.
SSG survey of 490 Panchayats of the district has been allocated and completed and peer to peer verification of survey is on and will be completed within the stipulated time, he informed.
With regard to solid waste management, the chair was apprised that a total of 254 segregation sheds in the district have been accorded and 70 Segregation sheds have been tendered and allotted.
The DDC directed the concerned to scale up pace of work and ensure completion of rest of the SBM –II components within the set timeline.
Emphasizing on coordination between different departments, DDC said that concerned Tehsildars will cooperate in making the land available for segregation sheds where there is problem in identification of land for construction of segregation sheds.
He asked the concerned to take utmost care while identifying the land for segregation sheds. Segregation sheds for solid waste management should not be constructed in the middle of habitation, close to any religious place, water body or on road side.
The DDC directed the concerned officers to get the soakage pits approved under MGNREGA for those households who don’t have job cards so that grey water is managed properly in villages.
He impressed upon the officers and field functionaries of RDD and Revenue departments to take the SBM top most priority in the district and work in complete coordination, and synergy so that cleanliness of villages of Kupwara district is ensured.
Executive Engineer REW Kupwara was asked to work out on the technicalities so that works are started and completed well in time.
The DDC appreciated field functionaries, PRIs and officers of RDD for making a visible change in villages of Kupwara district during the past 20 days in clearing legacy waste, particularly cow dung, polythene and other wastes from roadside and prominent places.
He asked BDOs and Tehsildars to initiate legal action against those who dump cow dung and other wastes on road sides and spoil the beauty of villages.
The DDC asked the officers to sensitize the people regarding segregation of solid and wet waste for better waste management.
The meeting was attended by ACD Kupwara, Hilal Ahmad Mir; ACP Kupwara, Parvaiz Rahim; ACR Kupwara, Irfan Bahadur; Executive Engineer REW Kupwara, Shafat Ahmad; BDOs, Tehsildars of Kupwara district and other concerned.
