Dear Editor,
Recently as per, the Geological Survey of India and mining officials, the capacity of Lithium (light metal) reserves discovered in Degana, Rajasthan, is greater than the capacity of Lithium reserves discovered in Jammu and Kashmir. This is a matter of glee.It is claimed that there is so much Lithium in Rajasthan that it can meet 80% of India’s total demand. According to reports, China maintains its global market monopoly despite having Lithium reserves of approximately 6 million tonnes. In fact, China accounts for approximately 55% of India’s total Lithium imports and our country is completely reliant on imports from other countries too.Now it is believed that China’s Lithium monopoly may end.According to the World Bank, global demand for Lithium metal will rise by 500% over the next two decades. From this point of view, getting immense reserves of Lithium in Rajasthan is extremely beneficial not only for the state but also for the country’s economy.
