The mountains in Jammu and Kashmir play a critical role in supporting the local ecosystem and communities. These mountains are important sources of fresh water for the region, as they act as catchment areas for streams and rivers and support diverse flora and fauna. The forests and meadows that are found in these mountains are also home to a wide variety of plant and animal species, making them unique biodiversity hotspots. They also attract a large number of tourists, thereby contributing to the local economy. Tourism is another key economic activity that takes place in these mountains, as they offer stunning views and opportunities for adventure sports, such as trekking, mountaineering, and skiing. This not only generates revenue but also provides employment opportunities for local communities. However, human activities, such as deforestation, overgrazing, and pollution, pose a threat to the survival of these mountains.
Controlling pollution levels and educating local communities and tourists about the importance of preserving these mountains is also crucial. Through sustained efforts from all stakeholders, these mountains can be protected and preserved for future generations to enjoy and appreciate.
To address these issues, various steps have been taken, such as implementing conservation and management plans, restricting human activities that cause degradation, promoting eco-tourism and sustainable tourism practices, and reforestation and afforestation initiatives. Mountain rocks are often used as building materials in mountainous regions, including Jammu and Kashmir. However, the extraction of rocks from mountains can also have negative impacts, such as soil erosion, degradation of wildlife habitats, and disturbance of local communities. To minimize these impacts, regulations and best practices for sustainable rock extraction should be followed. Additionally, controlling pollution levels and educating local communities and tourists about the importance of preserving these mountains is also crucial. Through sustained efforts from all stakeholders, these mountains can be protected and preserved for future generations to enjoy and appreciate.
