G’bal : The 10-day research methodology workshop was on Monday organised by the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) in collaboration with Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) began at Tulmulla Campus of the varsity.

According to a statement issued from the Public Relations Office of the University the event started with the recitation of Holy Quran by Mr. Ishfaq Ahmad Chopan, 5th semester student IBM. Describing research as an essential and important component of knowledge creation, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah asked the participating scholars to produce quality research, impacting the life of the communities and mankind, across the globe. “The thrust should be on quality research and not on quantity (voluminous),” he said, and called research as of paramount importance for the overall growth and development of the universities. Prof. Farooq asked the scholars to choose the methodology carefully and learn varied research techniques before embarking on it. He further asked the scholars to effectively interpret and analyse the data in order to make their research a success.

Addressing the gathering, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, asked the research scholars to strictly follow and adhere to the ethics and principles guiding the research. “There have been several instances wherein the research scholars have copied the papers of already published work of other scholars, available on the internet in toto, which is against the very principles and norms of conducting the research,” he said, and cautioned the scholars that the varsities across the country are fully equipped with software, which checks plagiarism.  Prof. Zargar said that for conducting quality, viable and effective research, the methodology forms the bedrock of any research. He asked the participants to remain inquisitive during all the days and clarify the doubts about the research methodology from the experts delivering the lectures.

Speaking on the occasion, Dean Research, University of Kashmir, Prof. Irshad Ahmad Nawchoo, underscored the need for carrying out multi-dimensional research, across disciplines. “The concept of research has changed and conducting collaborative research across disciplines, have become order of the day,” Prof. Nawchoo said, and asked the scholars to undertake quality research, having a good impact factor. “The NAAC team during their visit to the institutions, seek good impact research and publications, and never ask about the number of researches conducted,” Prof. Nawchoo remarked. He further asked the scholars to interact with the locals in order to gain knowledge about a particular subject or species, on which the research is being undertaken.

Course Director and Dean SoE, Prof. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, said that during the workshop, eminent researchers will deliver expert lectures on different topics of research and will share their personal experience. He said several scholars from higher educational institutions from other States including the researchers from universities of Jammu and Kashmir, are participating in the workshop.

Sr Asst Prof. and facilitator, Dr. Muhammad Syed Bhat conducted the programme proceedings while as Asst Prof. Mir. Insha Farooq proposed the vote of thanks.
