NIT Srinagar holds workshop on 3D printing, nano-tribology, characterization of materials

According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office of  NIT Srinagar here,  the Mechanical Engineering Department, NIT Srinagar orgamised a week long high end worksjop on 3D printing, nano-tribology and characterization of materials that was sponsored by Science and Engineering Research Board, Govt. of India under the Accelerate Vigyan Scheme.

The inaugural session was inaugurated by Director NIT, Prof. (Dr) RakeshSehgal, Prof. SachinMaheshwari, NSUT New Delhi, Prof M.F. Wani, Dean R&C and Institute’s Registrar Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari.

On Monday, the valedictory session was presided over by Prof. RakeshSehgal, Director NIT Srinagar & Chief Patron of the event and Prof. SachinMaheshwari, NSUT New Delhi who was the chief guest of the valedictory session.

Prof M.F. Wani, Dean R&C was the guest of honor for the event. The event also saw the presence of eminent personalities from NIT Srinagar including Registrar Prof. Kaiser Bukhari, Head of the Department, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, Senior Professor and ex Dean R&C, Prof. Harmain, coordinator of the event Dr. SandeepRathee amongst others.

In his key speech, Prof. Maheshwari said that both high-end workshops and FDPs are need of the hour. “If a few of the participants will get motivated through this workshop then it will be a great achievement,” he said.

He thanked Prof. RakeshSehgal, Director NIT Srinagar and Dr. SandeepRathee, event coordinator for inviting him for this noble endeavor towards nation building and technological advancement.

Prof. Maheshwari also highlighted the effectiveness of the chosen field of the workshop. He also remarked that the service to the nation can be done by empowering the youth of the country and thus the institute’s contribution towards the nation is remarkable.

In his message, Prof. RakeshSehgal shared that the institute has done every bit towards the nation’s technological manpower capability building. He promised to enhance the contribution of the institute at every front towards such noble initiatives.

Prof. Sehgal emphasized the need for capacity building in emerging fields like tribo-materials, additive manufacturing and material characterization.

He also highlighted the importance of sharing the expert knowledge of researchers and academicians in these fields with the upcoming researchers and faculty members to empower them with the right information so that they can make conscious choice to move forward.

Prof. Sehgal said NIT is committed to serve as a platform for sharing knowledge and skills with everyone through the medium of these outreach activities in the form of FDPs, workshops, skill development programs, etc.

“High end facilities developed by the institute by the hard work of so many years can serve their purpose best if they are utilized for national technological capacity building,” he said.

Prof. Sehgal thanked Prof Maheshwari for gracing the valedictory function and also for delivering the expert talk in the field of advancements in welding techniques.

He observed that the day is not far when our nation will be leading the world in technology and it is his vision to see NIT Srinagar as a primary torchbearer for this endeavor.

Prof. Sehgal said the workshop was a successful program and the details of each aspect were worked out very intricately. He congratulated the organizing committee, especially the coordinator of the event Dr. SandeepRathee.

Prof. M. F. Wani said the workshop covered aspects related to cutting-edge technologies like 3D printing, nano-tribology, etc. while hands-on training on high-end equipment was also provided.

Institute’s Registrar Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari also appreciated the program and said the institute is committed to take all possible steps to empower society. He said the institute plans to keep organizing these programs in future also with full vigor.

Prof. G.A. Harmain encouraged the students to participate in such events to bring out their leadership skills and experience technical growth.

Prof. Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, HOD observed that inculcating the right technical knowledge is need of the hour.

“We as a society can’t underestimate the importance of knowledge of advanced areas and working of sophisticated high-end equipment,” he said.

Dr. SandeepRathee, coordinator of the workshop presented brief report of the week-long workshop and said, “Over these days, a beautiful journey of knowledge sharing by various experts of national and international repute was witnessed. Also there were lab sessions on each day for hands-on and practical training to the participants.”

He said that participants from more than 10 different states and 18 Institutes/ Universities across the country were selected and they gave encouraging feedback.

In a concluding para of the above referred statement, on this occasion, Dr. Sandeep concluded the program with vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to the dynamic guidance of Director NIT, Prof. Rakesh Sehgal, chief guests, experts, SERB, all participants and student volunteers for making the workshop successful.
