Srinagar: Continuing the endeavour to bring the Administration to the door steps of the people to address their issues, the Deputy Commissioner(DC), Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad Wednesday undertook a visit to Gandtal Panchayat Halqa, a hilly area in Harwan Block of the District, to have first-hand appraisal of the public issues for on the spot redressal under Public Grievance Redressal Camp on weekly Block Diwas.
Besides, Chairman, District Development Council, Srinagar, Malik Aftab Ahmad, other DDC members Shabbir Reshi, Haji Ali and other PRIs were present on the occasion.
During the programme, scores of delegations from Syedpora, Fakir Gujri, Gandtal, Danihama, Chanpora, Mulnar, Waniham, Marinder Bagh and other adjoining areas apprised the Deputy Commissioner about the issues confronting them including augmentation of water supply, posting of BDO, repairs/macadamization of roads and lanes/by lanes, restoration of water fountain at Dachigam, augmentation of electric sub station at filtration plant, dredging of irrigation canal, upgradation of road at Theed, deployment of Driver for Health Centre, Harwan, construction of retaining wall at Fakir Gujri, providing of solar lights and ATM facility, black topping of road from Dara to Nagbal, completion of Danihama bridge and making youth clubs functional.
The issue regarding transfer of roads between R&B and SMC was also highlighted to ensure proper maintenance of the roads besides ensuring timely snow clearance measure during winters.
The Deputy Commissioner after giving patient hearing to the grievances and demands of the public, sought on the spot response from the concerned District Officers present during the Grievance Redressal Camp. He also assured them that all genuine demands and issues projected by them will be taken up with concerned authorities on priority.
The DC also gave on the spot directions to the concerned officers for time bound redressal of the public issues.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner said the purpose of holding such grievance redressal Camps is to take appraisal of local issues from the general public for precise and unground assessment for their time bound redressal. He said such programmes also provide feedback to the Administration to tailor its interventions for the public good and reach to the doorstep of the people instead of them visiting the DC office or other Government Offices.
The Deputy Commissioner listened to the public patiently and issued on the spot directions to the concerned Departments for immediate redressal of the public issues.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the educated unemployed youth to come forward and take benefit from different Government self-employment schemes to earn a dignified livelihood.
The DC assured the people of the area that all their genuine demands and issues raised during the Public Grievance Redressal Camp will be looked into on priority.
During the camp, DDC, Chairman, Malik Aftab Ahmad also spoke on the occasion.
While Career and Counselling officer, Employment Department, Manzoor Ahmad gave awareness about the different youth oriented schemes including MUMKIN, TEJASWINI, SEI (Spurring Entrepreneurship Initiative) and other job oriented schemes for providing employment opportunities to the local youth through different Self-employment schemes. He stressed the unemployed educated youth to take advantage of these livelihood generation schemes to become self-reliant and provide employment to others.
Later, the DC also visited Water Conservation Reservoir Sarband near Dachigam National Park Harwan to inspect the progress of works undertaken for its restoration and rejuvenation.
On the occasion, the DC was informed that restoration work on the historic Sarband Water Conservation Reservoir is nearing completion. He was also informed that storage capacity of the Sarband has been upgraded to 215000 cum from the existing capacity of 42700 cum.
With regard to the development of the surroundings of the Sarband, the DC directed the Engineers of I&FC to expedite the work on war footing to development of the patch of land along the Reservoir. He also asked them to construct pedestrian route to provide smooth movement between the banks and the sarband to enhance the natural beauty around the Sarband to make it a piece of attraction.
It is worth mentioning here that Harwan Sarband was the first reservoir constructed in the valley by Maharaja Hari Singh in the year 1904 to provide clean water supply to the people of Srinagar city.
During the visit, the DC also inspected the Primary Health centre(PHC) Darbagh and took stock of its functioning. The DC stressed upon staff of the PHC to work with added zeal and dedication to ensure better first aid facilities for the locals.
