B’la : On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Syed SehrishAsgar to curb the practice of illegal profiteering in markets ahead of the upcoming festival of Eid ul- Adha, a team of officers from Revenue, Police, Food Safety, SMC, FCS&CA and Legal Metrology have intensified the drive of market checking across the district.
The market checking squad under the Supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Zahoor Ahmad Raina has started this drive to curb over pricing and black marketing.
The teams conducted checking of various establishments including meat shops, poultry, vegetable shops, Bakery and other essentials in all the markets of the district during which around Rs.26,300 fine was imposed on erring traders for violating different provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act.
It is worth mentioning here that the Deputy Commissioner had already directed all the SDMs to keep a vigil eye on the markets ahead of Eid, so that the general people may not face any inconvenience. She directed them to intensify the drives in all Tehsils throughout the district to ensure stabilization of market rates and availability of essential commodities including vegetables.
She also directed shopkeepers to keep government approved rate lists displayed in their shops and warned strict action against erring shopkeepers for violating the Food Safety and Standard Rules.
Furthermore, the DC directed the concerned authorities to ensure that the government approved rates for sacrificial animals are implemented in letter and spirit without any deviations so that people do not get fleeced.
