Srinagar : In view of the ensuing Eid ulAdha, the Food Safety wing of Drugs and Food Control Organization (D&FCO) has intensified market checking to prevent profiteering, black marketing, sale of meat, poultry and sacrificial animals in contravention of prices fixed by government.
Tuesday, the inspections were carried out at Bemina, HMT, Zainakote, Qamarwari and adjoining areas. During the drive, many food manufacturing units were inspected and improvement notices are being issued to five among them. Some bakery, confectionary and mutton products processed under unhygienic conditions worth approximately Rs. 20,000/- were destroyed on the spot.
The date of manufacture, use-by date, ingredients, nutritional information and temperature controlled system in the display panels were also checked. Food Business operators especially Bakers, Chicken sellers and Butchers were directed to maintain a high level of hygiene within their premises otherwise action under relevant provisions of Food Safety & Standards Act shall be initiated against them.
The drive shall continue during the days to come.
