Over half dozen houses gutted in massive fire at Shirpora Ang

Srinagar: Several residential houses were in the night intervening Friday and Saturday gutted in a massive fire in Shirpora area of Anantnag district.
Locals said that fire broke out in one of the houses in a congested locality of Shirpora area of the Anantnag in the night intervening Friday and Saturday. They said the fire quickly spread to adjacent houses, adding timely action by fire and emergency services personnel brought the blaze under control.
An official said that in the incident six residential houses were gutted which belonged to Nisar Ahmad Sofi , Bashir Ahmad Sofi, Ghulam Mohammad Sofi Sons of Mohammad Shaban Sofi and Sitara Banoo wife of Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir, Manzoor Ahmad Deva S/o Ghulam Hassan Deva.The exact damage and the cause of the fire could not be ascertained as of now. The incidents of fire are on the rise in the Kashmir Valley and this has put pressure on the emergency services.
Around 660 incidents of fire have been reported in the valley in the first three months of this year, as per the report released by the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) department.At least ten people have lost their lives in these fire incidents.
According to the data, more than 525 residential and other buildings, 99 shops and 11 shopping complexes, a hospital and eight vehicles were also destroyed during the 660 fire incidents.The official data prepared by the Fire and Emergency Services department revealed that property worth Rs 35.72 crore was damaged, while goods worth over Rs 31.30 crore were also burnt in these incidents.The Fire and Emergency Services department, as per the data, claimed to have saved property worth Rs 27.75 crore in these incidents.Reports pointed out short-circuits and gas leaks as major causes of fire incidents.Keeping the catastrophe caused by fire incidents in mind, the likely causes of such incidents should be revisited in order to arrive at a workable solutions.
