Srinagar : As a part of Gram Swaraj Month being celebrated across Jammu and Kashmir with the aim to strengthen Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) besides achieve the mission of “Swachh Bharat” in rural areas, a massive Cleanliness drive was launchedin Harwan and KhonmohPanchayat Blocks of Srinagar District.
The Cleanliness drive was launched on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad to inculcate the spirit of cleanliness and hygiene among rural population besides protecting ecological balance in soundings of periphery Districts.
During the drive, various stakeholders including PRIs, Civil society members, and prominent citizens among others, showed their enthusiastic participation and several locations and places, having vital public significance were cleaned for larger public convenience.
The participants laid thrust to make the rural areas pollution free and it was emphasised that use of polythene should be banned completely.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Development Srinagar, Syed Farooq Ahmad informed about the campaign and said that such a drive was launched with an aim to maintain hygiene at places of public significance. He also stressed for active participation of all stakeholders for achieving the desired goals of the programme and said more such activities under Gram Swaraj month shall be held in all rural parts of Srinagar district.
