SPO shot dead, brother critically injured in Budgam militant attack

B’gam: A Special Police Officer (SPO) was killed while his brother was critically injured at Chadabugh area of Soibugh in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Saturday. Lt Governor has condemned the attack with the remark that attackers won’t go unpunished. National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah a former Chief Minister and J&K Apni Party President a former minister have also condemned the attack.
A police officer said that an SPO and his brother were fired upon by the unknown gunmen at their home and left both of them critically injured.
He said both were referred to JVC hospital Srinagar for treatment where doctors declared SPO who was identified as Ishfaq Ahmad, son of Ghulam Muhammad as brought dead.
“Umar Ahmad, his brother, is undergoing treatment,” they said. Locals said that those attacked are four brothers, three of whom work in the police department.
“Militants barged into their house and fired indiscriminately but only two brothers, one SPO posted at Budgam and another one who is a student were present at the house and sustained injuries,” they said.
Kashmir Zone Police wrote on it’s twitter handle “SPO Ishfaq Ahmad and his brother Umar Jan (a student) were fired upon by Militants at their residence in village Chadbugh area of Budgam. However Ishfaq Ahmad succumbed to his injuries & attained martyrdom. Area cordoned off, search operation in progress.” A police officer said that the case has been registered and the area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers
Office of the J&K Lt Governor on it’s twitter handle quoted Lt Governor Manoj Sinha condeming the attack on SPO Ishfaq Ahmad & his brother Umar Jan.Tribute to Ishfaq, who were killed in the line of duty. Lt Governor in this tweet prayed for speedy recovery of injured Umar and expressed his Deepest condolences to the family, as he said further that “those behind this despicable attack will not go unpunished”.
Condemning the attack National Conference Vice President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah wrote on his twitter handle “Unreservedly condemn the cowardly killing of SPO Ishfaq Ahmad in central Kashmir’s Chadbugh village of Budgam. May Allah grant him a place in Jannat. Our condolences to his loved ones and @JmuKmrPolice. Prayers for recovery of his brother Umar who was also injured in the attack”
Condemning the attack the J&K Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari said “senseless violence and bloodshed has taken a heavy toll on the people of Jammu and Kashmir, tearing apart families and adding to our collective tragedies”. Terming the attack as “dastardly and barbaric” Bukhari said “the cowardly attack on police personnel and his younger brother has left us numb and speechless”, adding that “I unreservedly condemn the dastardly and cowardly attack on the J&K police SPO Ishfaq Ahmad and his younger brother in Budgam. “We stand with the family in this terrible time. Such acts of violence have no place in our society and only add to our collective tragedies and miseries”, Bukhari wrote on Twitter. Paying rich tributes to the slain SPO, he conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and speedy recovery of his brother.
