Pulwama : The District Administration Pulwama in collaboration with ICDS department Tuesday celebrated International Women’s day at Govt. Boys Degree College Pulwama under the theme “Gender equality Tuesday for a sustainable tomorrow”, and call for climate action for women, by women.
The programme was presided over by the District Programme Officer, ICDS, PulwamaZahoor Ahmad.
Speaking on the occasion, Zahoor Ahmad said that women and girls are effective and powerful leaders and change-makers for climate adaptation and mitigation. They are involved in sustainability initiatives around the world, and their participation and leadership results in more effective climate action.
He said that continuing to examine the opportunities as well as the constraints to empower women and girls to have a voice and be equal players in decision-making related to climate change and sustainability is essential for sustainable development and greater gender equality. Without gender equality Tuesday, a sustainable future, and an equal future, remains beyond our reach.
Ahmad said that Advancing gender equality in the context of the climate crisis and disaster risk reduction is one of the greatest global challenges of the 21st century.
He also said that women are increasingly being recognized as more vulnerable to climate change impacts than men, as they constitute the majority of the world’s poor and are more dependent on the natural resources which climate change threatens the most.
The representative of One Stop Center said that they are always available for the Women in distress and working for the welfare of the Women.
She highlighted that One Stop CenterPulwama is providing support to many Women on daily basis and also apprised the gathering of women about their basic rights and schemes available for them in legal institutions as well as in other line departments.
On the occasion various cultural programmes were presented by students of Government Boys Degree College Pulwama and Anganwadi Workers.
Besides, various speakers also spoke about the theme on the occasion.
Among others the programme was attended by Principal GDC, Block Medical Officer, Pulwama, Child Development Project Officers, good numbers of students and other concerned.
Later, the District Programme Officer felicitated the newly born girl babies and distributed certificates of appreciation to the Anganwadi Workers.
