Srinagar : The body of a second person, who had drowned along with his brother in the river Jhelum at Khawaja Bagh area of Baramulla in north Kashmir, was fished out on Saturday morning.
Officials said that the tragic incident that took place on Friday at Khawaja Bagh area after the two siblings were busy with sand extraction work was drowned in the river Jhelum. Later, police were informed who launched a rescue operation with the help of locals.
The officials said that the body of Hilal Ahmad Malla son of Manzoor Ahmad Malla a resident of Laharwalpora Bandipora district was retrieved from the river Jhelum last evening, while the body of another sibling Naseer Ahmad was retrieved from the river Jhelum Saturday.
After completing all the legal and medical formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to his relatives for the last rites, they said.
Meanwhile, locals staged a protest against the Baramulla administration, alleging that no officer had reached the scene of the incident since yesterday, while the police had been conducting rescue operations with them.
“We are grateful to the police for joining us in the rescue operation for the last two days,” they said, adding that the government should provide financial assistance to these two families as soon as possible because they were very poor and their wives have nothing left
